I am decorating my house

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

I am decorating my house at the moment and am thinking of getting new carpets everywhere as removing the furniture has really shown up the dirt on the floors! We are going to have someone in to do some quotes for us so that we can get an idea of cost. One thing that concerns me about getting new flooring is that certain parts are likley to wear out more quickly than others. I have been looking at getting some chair mats so that the carpets can be protected. I am especially concerned about the chairs at the desks because they have wheels and I think the fact that they will be moving back and forth all of the time will mean that there will be lots of wear on the carpet.

I hope that I can find a nice chair mat so that I can put it under the office chair and it will blend in with the room but still protect the carpet. I also need something which is the right size for the little floor space that we have in there as well as being safe with the chair that we have. I should be able to find a good computer chair mat for that purpose hopefully.

Window Replacement

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

I am looking for a window replacement Utah company at the moment. My windows are really draughty and so I want some mew ones. They have wooden frames and are about twenty years old and they have warped over the years. This means that when it is breezy or cold, the draught blows through the house. The front door and back door are draughty and they are opposite each other which means there is a through draught. On the first floor there are French doors opposite each other and we get the same problem with draughts. Then the main bedroom has the same type of draughty door.

The glass in a lot of the windows has blown meaning that it steams up between the pains of glass so they look dirty all of the time. I want to do some major renovations in the house and this Utah replacement windows will be the first part of the job. Hopefully it will save us some money on our heating bills as well. We are hoping that getting some new doors will smarten up the front of the house and the garden too. We are not supposed to change the front of the house so we may not be able to change the front door but hopefully might be able to find one that looks the same but is plastic and therefore not so draughty.

Wedding Table Decorations

Friday, February 27th, 2009

I am trying to decide on table decorations for my friend’s wedding. She has asked me to look into it for her as she is very busy with everything else. I have been looking at the traditional gift boxes for favors but I am wondering whether to do something a bit different. The flowers are already organised as well as the place cards so really this is the only feature of the table that has not be sorted out. I know that she has chosen some special heart shaped truffles for the guests and so I have been looking at cellophane bags but some of them are really just too plain. It is hard to find any that really match in with her decorations. I am therefore looking for something a bit different. I have wondered about just using a see through bag and tying it with pretty curling ribbon but I think that may look a bit cheap. Thankfully I have come across some very pretty candy bags which match in with her colour scheme and are not too expensive. I think they will be ideal so I will show them to her when I see her later and see what she thinks.

Understanding Doors

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

Doors are the windows into your home. They are the portals that lead your guests into your humble abode. They are just as much a part of your home as any of your other furniture. This means that you should really think about what you want when it comes to picking your doors.

The first thing to consider is what you want for your exterior doors. These are very important. They need to be strong enough to protect your home from the elements but decorative enough to match the look and feel of your house. This isn’t that hard to do for the most part. There are plenty of doors available and most houses don’t need anything that is truly elaborate. You can just pick something that is tasteful and sturdy, and it will be just fine.

Interior doors are a bit of a different story. You need to ensure that they will grant the proper privacy and that they match your interior décor. Privacy is a bit of an important thing to remember when it comes to getting a good door. You will want something solid that will limit noise and securely seal off the bedrooms and bathrooms. Anything else will get really annoying fast.

These are just a few of the basics that you’ll need to know when it comes to picking out your doors. Keep them in mind and try to find something that is great for you.

Be In Control with Your Own Stuff

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

If you want to be in control with your own things, you have to know where they are located and how they are well placed inside a room. In your bathroom, you can make use of a bathroom organizer where you can put all your towels, under wear and etc. in it. Through this bathroom organizer, you will not have to go outside your bathroom and wet your entire floor with excess water from your body. Another thing that you can use inside your bathroom is a wall spice rack, quite surprising? Yes, you can make use of a wall spice rack by putting your toothbrush and toothpaste on it.

See? You just have to be imaginative to play around with your interior design. Another thing that comes from the kitchen and can be used inside the bathroom is a hanging spice rack. You can actually make use of it by putting some fresh flowers or plants in it. Through this, it will make you bathe more and more giving a natured feel inside your own bathroom, especially when looking up on your hanging spice rack. Undoubtedly, you can play with your imagination to give your bathroom a twist of design that you will surely love.

Anyone know a good place to buy good wall paper from? Grab bags?

Monday, August 4th, 2008

I remember my mom got a grab bag years ago from a catolgue company that sold wall paper but she can’t remember the name of them.
I am looking for thick wallpaper- 1750-1800 style.
I found a few places but it’s $200 per roll.
Anyone else have any suggestions?

My mother recently put up similar wall paper.
She was able to find it at Sherwin Williams. They have a great selection, and the best prices around.
This wall paper was really unique. It reminds you of, the old style tin ceilings in century homes. The kind with ornate patterns stamped into them.
One thing that was really nice about the wall paper, is she was able to paint it, once it was hung. She painted it a dark charcoal grey, then, took a small roller and carefully painted the raised area white.
It looks GREAT!!!! Very unique. I have not ever seen anything like it.

Weed question- smell and burning?

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

I was pulling weeds behind our garage yesterday and when I pulled one it let off a horrible smell. I understand the smell as a defense to keep animals away- but my skin started burning through my gloves. Any idea what kind of weed this is?

Does it look like this? It could be ironically-named Tree of heaven

Fridge wont get below 65 degrees but freezer is working extremely well?

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

fridge has water drops on the top of the inside of fridge. freezer has ice crystals forming in it. any ideas on the cause or the repair would be welcomed.

that gap in your door gasket (seal) IS your problem. Those water drops on the ceiling of your fridge section are caused by the warm air leak. You’ve let the problem go on so long, now your air vents from freezer to fridge are full of ice, so no air flow causes fridge to stay above 65º.

My guess is you have a gap at the bottom, non-hinge side of the fridge door, and possibly a gap at the top non-hinge side of same. These gaps, on a FREEZER TOP MODEL are usually caused by someone opening door, leaning on it, and squeezing the top corner of the door, while looking inside, bending the door, and squishing the top corner.

If this is the case, go to your local hardware store, get a NYLON washer the SAME SIZE as your lower door hinge pin. You will need to remove both doors to access the lower door hinge. that will take care of the lower gap.

take a section of paper towel, tear it in half, fold that half in ½” wide folds, tuck underneath that gasket at top corner

———

A five inch quarter inch gap is too much. That is the source of the moisture and frost and thus the poor cooling. It is also making it run much because the warm air is sensed by the thermostat in the refrig section thus making the freezer colder.

Make sure the unit is level and sitting solid on all four corners or feet. Being unlevel can cause the door to hang crooked causing gaps in the seal.

I check for that by pushing on the top front corner of the refrig (side to side or front to back) and see if the door adjusts and the gap closes.

You might try blowing hot air on the seal with a hair dryer to see if it will soften and close. But don’t melt it.

Which is better for cleaning my fridge?

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

I have bleach, Pine Sol, and Easy Off Bam.

none of the above, use baking soda in warm water

Depending on what is on your fridge, soap and water is great!

Closet Organizer

Friday, July 4th, 2008

Keeping things organized in your home can benefit your life in more ways than you might think. Reducing the clutter will help you feel more in control and eliminate the stress caused by disorganization. An item such as a closet organizer can increase the amount of free space even if you don’t get rid of anything. You can also say goodbye to endless time wasted looking for keys, paperwork, and other items that seem to disappear right when we need them the most.

A rubbermaid photo box makes for a great way to organize your photos and other media. The clear plastic box holds up to 20 large photo envelopes, 15 VHS tapes, 27 DVD’s, or 32 CD’s. The included bookends hold you items in place and the latching lid keeps the contents secure. The clear plastic also makes it easy to see what’s inside without to having to open the lid. An ideal way to clean things up in your bathroom is with a bathroom organizer. This handy item offers fashionable storage and functionality and is perfect for storing extra towels, tissues, lotions and more. It comes topped with a convenient shelf and a metal rod for hanging hand towels.
